Yes you can improve the performance of the CW filters by grounding the cr=
ystals on both sides at the base of the crystals. The reason Electaft tel=
ls you not to use the left hand holes for grounding is because the ground=
wires would prevent the SSB module from fitting if you installed the wir=
es up on the top of the crystal. If you use short wires about 1/4 inch lo=
ng then this will not be a problem. However you must solder the wires qui=
ckly with a hot iron or you may damage the seal on the crystal can. This =
can be tricky if you are not careful and you may ruin a crystal requiring=
a new matched set. Do this at your own risk and if you do ruin a crystal=
, fess up and buy an new set rather than asking for warranty replacement.=
Frankly even though the improvement is measurable you may not ever notic=
e the difference.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2: Holes to the left of Xtals?

Hello,
In the web I found a mod that improves the performance of the cw-filters
in the K2.
The mod suggests to ground the xtals on the left side near the bottom,
while
there is a note in the K2-Manual saying NOT TO USE THE HOLES ON THE LEFT
SIDE OF X7-X11.

Will these holes be needed for later options?
