I've just finished my KPA100 amp and everything aligned/worked first
time -
100W+ on all bands.

However, there seems to be a power "lag" when first keying up the radio
from switch-on.

i.e. there's no power output for the first couple of dits, then it
bursts into life....

That's normal behavior for a K2, Steve, with or without the KPA100. The
power control circuit in the K2 checks the position of the POWER control
knob and compares that to the actual r-f output of the rig when you key
it, and then adjusts the gain of the r-f strip to produce the power you
are "requesting" with the POWER control. 

But it only does this when you have the key "down". So when you first
turn the rig on it takes a few milliseconds after you press the key to
make the adjustment and bring the power up from zero to the proper
level. It will be fine after that until next time you power up.

Also, if you turn the power down, you will notice that when you send the
next few dits the power is still up at the full level you had before,
until the Power control circuit can notice the change and adjust the
output accordingly.
