Good idea, Mike -- especailly the first time.  I ended up with the power 
cord pinched between the right side of the case and the shield.  After a 
few seconds of operating, the output went to zero.  Fortunately my power 
supply has a crowbar and shut down before the fuse even blew.

Now that I have the cables "trained", I no longer remove the side panel 
when doing an R&R.
