I did get something similar the other week when I was operating
portable but it was difficult to be too sure out in the open. I
have never had anything like it during operation in the shack. I put
it down to possible RF feedback from the 300 ohm ribbon feeding the
doublet. There was no earth connection to the rig. The effect was
in fact intermittent, as if the feeder moving in the breeze caused it
to come and go. The K2 was being powered off a 4AH gel cell, but I
don't think it had anything to do with the supply.

I had the sidetone disappear once while I was doing the initial tests
on my K2 some months back. Although the sidetone source setting was
correct, there was no waveform coming out of the micro. After some
probing I switched off, and found it was restored when I powered on
again. It has worked flawlessly ever since. Judging from other
mails, perhaps there is some intermittency with the sidetone which is
not understood.
