I'm one of these.  I can see individual molecules (almost) at a distance of 4"
with my glasses off.  At greater distances, I'm blind as a bat.  A very good
friend of mine made me promise to wear plain safety glasses while kitbuilding
and I'm glad I did...I found little bits of flux on them which possibly could
have ended up in my eyes.
