Floating the gel cell at 12.7 VDC sounds a bit low to me. Try bumping
the power supply up to, say, 13.0 VDC indicated on the K2 readout and see
if that gets rid of your thumps and pops. I don't think this would have
anything to do with your loss of sidetone, however.
Resetting the CPU is also worth a try. You can reset the CPU to the
factory defaults by holding the "4", "5", and "6" buttons in while
powering up the K2. Before you do this, write down all of your
BFO/filter settings so that you can set them up again without having to
use Spectrogram.
Also, if you have thw I/O option installed (or the KPA100, which includes
the I/O), make sure that menu ST L is set to "U8-4", otherwise it should
be set to "U6-25". To make this selection, place the K2 in the CW mode
and tap MENU and select the ST L display, then hold MENU to move the
underline to the right side of the display. Now, tap DISPLAY to toggle
to the appropriate setting. You should hear the sidetone when the
correct setting is selected.
