When my daughter (college junior) did the same to the power connector on 
her Compaq laptop, she were able to replace it with a part from Radio 
Shack...the barrel was indeed different, but the resulting repair 
worked. I was proud of my not-so-little girl; I suppled the workbench, 
tools, magnifier light and soldering iron, and she did all the real work 
with me simply serving as an advisor and morale support (yes, you can 
disconect that). She's a whiz...much more dexterous than her parental unit.

The RS part had the tabs on the bottom. I don't have the part number 
handy, but it was off-the-peg at RatShack. If you can't get it there hit
