I had the same problem.

To correct it, I installed about 2 sq-in of adhesive copper foil 
between the VFO and the bottom cover.  The foil was stuck to a 
capacitor and also soldered into place -- mechanically kept separate 
from the bottem cover.

The K1 also has some temperature drift -- very embarassing during a 
QSO.  To reduce it, I put several layers of Saran wrap between the 
underside and the circuit board.  More importantly, I stuffed some 
slayers of Saran wrap on the upper side around the VFO.  This slows 
the temperature increase due to the heat given off by the RF power 
transistor.
