Thanks for the suggestions of suitable frequency standard transmissions available in
Europe.  The 40m broadcast stations do seem the easiest option and do seem to be
fairly accurate.  I could not hear the Russian transmissions on 9997 etc.

The problem in calibrating the K2 is that, as stated in the handbook, must always be
done at an exact MHz frequency, eg 10MHz.  Also it is not a simple matter of tweaking
the tuning cap for zero beat, it must be done as per the handbook, and then the pll
recalibrated.  I got totally confused trying to do it otherwise, then took three goes
using the handbook method and still ended 20Hz out, exactly where I was in the first
place when I set the crystal against my Racal counter!  I shall leave it there!

Lacking a strong WWV or equivalent in Europe makes setting the calibration by the
handbook method a little difficult.  However I have established that the 10MHz source
I have in my 136kHz converter is pretty well on frequency!!
