Hi guys/gals,
I found a much better pack than the Mountain-ops pack for the K2 and at
1/3 of the price.
I finally asked the right person at Wal-mart. He directed me to the
Notebooks/Portfolio's Section, which is right close to the school paper
and supplies and the magazine rack. This back I got is a laptop computer
carrying case, which includes Shoulder straps to be carried on back. It
is black, and has a water resistant material finely woven together. It
has one internal mesh pocket with a velcro strap covering a padded pocket
for the laptop. This padded area is large enough for the Elecraft K2.
If you find that the K2 slips too far down in, put an external battery
under the pocket first before putting the K2 in. Then there is room in
front of this padded pocket to put in a logbook and the K2 Manual. I put
my MFJ manual tuner between the K2 and the books. I tried putting my
mike in the mesh pocket that is now between the K2 and the manual tuner.
Would not fit, so I attached the mic to the radio and let it dangle on
the side of the K2.
On the outside there are three compartments. The sides have one each,
probably for putting CD in. I used these to put my coax, antenna long
wire, and a few wire nuts in there. The compartment opposite your back
has a zip-pocket on the outside. Then on the inside are several places
to put a writing utensil, floppy disks, or whatever you can put in there.
There is also an extra internal mesh pocket with zipper. Since my power
cable is still too large and bulky I put in that compartment.
The shoulder straps, in width, are smaller then a high school student's
backpack straps. There is also a handstrap if you would like to carry it
that way. The base of the pack is flat.
Hope this good enough for you.
Estimation of cost with sales tax or S/H included, whichever way you get
is listed below:
MT. OPS. ---> $85
WAL-MART-->$30
Sincerely,
Daniel
