[Elecraft] Antenna idea for a portable K1

Hi Gang

While a K2/KAT2 will tune almost any antenna, the same is not true for the
K1/KAT1. Having a four band K1 and intending to take it back packing, the
choice appeared to be either the general purpose "long wire" with it's
inherent ground losses or some form of trapped/parallel dipole.

My favourite form of antenna is a doublet, early attempts at tuning
7/10/14/21 MHz using doublets weren't too successful with the KAT1, then I
accidentally found a combination of top wire and feeder length that gives a
good match through the KAT1. The top section is 66 foot long (halfwave
dipole on 7 MHz) with 32 foot of 300 Ohm ribbon feedline. There is a 4:1
voltage balun on the rear of the K1. The antenna is supported on a
fibreglass fishing pole in "inverted V" with the apex at 20 feet.

All I need now is for the current auroral conditions to clear!
