Hi PAT:

>Pardon my ignorance but what does KOC mean? Knights of Columbus? King of
>Cool? Knowledgeable old Chick?

It's a callsign, son... KILO ZERO CHARLIE...! I Special event callsign,
currently being used to celebrate Earth Day (this coming Monday, April 22nd).

The State of Missouri 'officially' celebrated Earth Day yesterday, Friday,
April 19th. The Mid-MO ARC (Jefferson City MO) set up a
demonstration/Special Event station (k0c) on the steps of the MO State
Capitol and intended to OPERATE from there, but the strong coronal mass
ejection which took place Thursday virtually wiped all bands clean of
signals yesterday, so we made essentially no QSOs using the special event
callsign.

Since we have the call assigned to us until Sunday night at 0000z April 22,
Club members will be operationg, using k0c, until then, and on various
bands and modes. I happened to choose operting CW on the QRP bands.

Hope this helps, anbd I understand that just by looking at "K0C" it'd be
pretty difficult to tell that the "0" was a ZERO and not an "OH".
