Several folk have highlighted the fact that battery life is inversely
proportional to how badly you need the power. Batteries invariably
run down the fastest when you are the furthest from an outlet.
I suggest equipping your XYL, YL or other baggage mule with a sturdy
backpack containing a truck battery. (the KPA 1000 ??) I used my K2
on one for a week at ZS6/G3JAG and was completely unable to dent the
voltage. (My XYL's regular handbag weighs as much as a truck battery,
so no undue hardship there.)
Prospective portable users of the KPA100 might like to note that
TenTec suggest in the manual that even their 500w (output) Hercules
II linear can be run successfully from a float charged truck battery.
(Now who was it said "hams will stop at nothing" ??)
