Would there be any ill effects in reducing the value  of these resistors, or
removing them entirely? Will the audio output chip be damaged by a dead
short on the output?

Or how about different values between R35 and R36 for those of us with
differential hearing loss between ears? I have fairly severe loss in my
right ear and was thinking of trying some passive or active compensation
outside of the K2.
