G'day fellow EIDXA members,


Elections for club officers at our October meeting is quickly approaching.


Jerry - WW0E has indicated that he needs to step down as Vice President & Newsletter Editor at the end of this year after serving many years in this capacity. We all owe Jerry a tremendous round of applause for the excellent work he has done as VP, news letter editor and his ability to scrounge door prizes for our club meetings and picnic. If you would like to be VP and / or News Letter Editor please let me know and I'll get you on the ballet. Remember, Jerry is just an email or phone call away to provide all of the support the new VP / editor will need.


Rich - W3ACO has also been serving as Secretary / Treasurer for 8 years and desires to relinquish the reins to the checkbook to someone else. Likewise, we owe Rich a big round of applause for his many years of outstanding service in this vitally important position. If you would like to serve as Secretary / Treasurer please let me know. Rich is also just an email and phone call away and I'm sure will help in the transition as much as possible.


I've agreed to serve as club President for a second year; however, if anyone else would like to try their hand at this position please let me know. It certainly won't hurt my feelings!!


So, please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in helping our club continue to move forward by serving in either of these positions. They really don't require an inordinate amount of time and are actually a lot of fun. As I quickly learned when taking over the President position, no one is going to bite your head off and there are a lot of people willing to help in any way they can. This is a very good group of hams!

Subject: [EIDXA] ICOM IC-765 For Sale

Having recently purchased an ICOM IC-7600, I am now selling my ICOM IC-765 HF transceiver, and ICOM CI-V Communication adapter.



I purchased the IC-765 new and has been in my (non smoking) shack since I bought it. 



The CI-V adapter is a communication interface which allows the radio to be controlled from a computer with an RS232 serial Com port. I have used it for years with my N1MM contest logging program. I am told it also works with other logging programs.



The radio is mint condition, however I have to disclose two minor issues. First, the internal 110 VAC power supply has failed. I purchased a 12 VDC power cable  with an  internal connector, and have been using the radio with an external 12 volt supply. That has worked just fine.  Second, the USB injection oscillator is a slightly off frequency. There is a ceramic trimmer capacitor adjustment inside the radio to tweak it back on.



I will sell both the IC-765 and the CI-V adapter for $375. A photo will be posted soon on the EIDXA website.

Just a reminder that the annual EIDXA fall picnic will be held one week from today (September 24) at Karin Blankenhagen's (K0EGQ) QTH in Martelle. The address is 7734 Highway 1 which is just north of the greater Martelle metropolis.


The eyeball QSOs usually start around 3 - 3:30 with the brats coming off the grill around 5 - 5:30. Please bring a hot dish, salad, desert or any tasty dish you'd like to share with the group. Also, please bring your own chairs, table service and beverages.


The long range weather forecast calls for a 60% chance of PM showers for next Saturday. In case we do get inclement weather next Saturday, the rain date for the picnic is October 8 (Iowa University football away game). The last few years we have had beautiful weather for the picnic so hopefully our track record will hold out.


Hope to see everyone at the picnic next Saturday!

Hello All,


The WX-man is still predicting a dry Saturday so it looks like we may get to squeeze in the EIDXA picnic. Friday and Sunday don't look too great weather-wise so hopefully the conditions don't skew one way or the other by very many hours and rain us out.


Thanks to Rod - K0DAS and Jason - NR0X, several of us have been able to successfully operate 6 meter moon bounce (EME) with a portable / temporary installation in the side yard at the NR0X super station. The plan is to have the EME station on the air between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The moon sets around 3:20 p.m. so if you would like to see / experience EME please come out to the picnic a bit earlier and see whats going on.


Also, Jerry - WW0E, has once again rounded up some excellent door prizes for our event. Thanks Jerry!


Don't forget to bring your own table service, drinks and a hot or cold dish to share with the group. EIDXA will be providing the brats which will be grilled to perfection by our resident grill master Terry - W0AWL. Chow time will be 5 p.m.

WHOA!!!  What a difference in weather!!!   We were IFR or marginal VFR
yesterday.   Ceiling never raised enough to legally fly VFR.   It was foggy
until midafternoon and misted all day.

I was planning on flying down like the last couple of years.   Looks like I
missed out!   The CQWW RTTY Contest kept me busy instead.
