I first met W0UN in Colorado in the mid 70s and we have kept in close 
contact over the years.  He was a brilliant engineer but he had a degree in 
Astrophysics as I remember.  After he graduated from Univ. of Colorado, 
Charles Fenwick, W0FTM, and I tried hard to hire him a Collins.  He did not 
accept and I know the high cost of Iowa farmland for a serious contest 
station played into his decision.  For a number of years he was president of 
Alpha.  He has lived in the Texas hill country for a number of years.  I 
really great guy.

Lew is right, 71 is way to young.

John was a good friend of mine.  He stayed with Terry and I several timers
on his way from Colorado to the east.  He was a brilliant engineer, 
particularly
in the field of sophisticated RADAR systems.  Age 71 is far too young to 
die.
