All,

Please mark your calendars..... the next EIDXA meeting is scheduled for October 14 in 1142 Linn Hall. This is the same room we had for our July club meeting.

After our normal business meeting, Dale Svetanoff - WA9ENA will be presenting on "Lightning Protection and Station Grounding for Amateur Radio" As Dale puts it, "Increasing our defense against Thor and Zeus".

Dale is a retired Rockwell Collins EMC engineer and now working as an independent consultant in RFI and EMC issues and is active in the Cedar Rapids Section of the IEEE and the IEEE EMC Society. Dale is the former Chair of IEEE Std 299 working group, and active in support roles in other IEEE standards.

In Dale's consulting work, he specializes in Electromagnetic Compatibility ("EMC") issues, with emphasis on systems and equipment that have radio frequency interference ("RFI") problems, simple or complex grounding and/or shielding schemes, and system design for safety, lightning protection, and improved performance. He was granted 3 patents (2 as sole inventor, 1 as co-inventor) and given technical presentations to IEEE EMC-S, NIST, US Army, and multiple amateur radio groups.

He was also appointed as Jones County ARES Emergency Coordinator, has been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1962. He lives on 5 acres in a house built in 2000 and equipped with house and tower grounding configurations based upon MIL-HDBK-419A designs. He has 3 towers, the tallest of which is 77 feet (100 feet with mast and up-top antenna) that has taken two (2) direct lightning strikes with ZERO damage to in-house electronics or appliances (but watch out for NSL effects).

Hope to see all of our club members at the October club meeting. Please consider bring a non-member ham guest to the club meeting to enjoy Dale's very informative and quite entertaining presentation.

Thanks,

Joe - K8OM
