I have had a turn in my helth the last 30 days so climbing towers is out for awhile until we can get things straighten out. I miss being on the air and RTTY contesting. Here's what I got cooking down south. My tower was cleaned off to the bare stuucture in May of this year. Here's what I would like to see happen is install the rotor plate, rotor, rotor cable, thrush bushing, mast and ladder mast. Then when that is all completed. Install 2 antennas. Hygain DB 12/17 and Optibeam 17-4. (Antennas still in boxes) WB0MCO, WB0B, K0TJ will help me on getting the antennas put together. I am slowly working on getting the outdoor switch cabinet (damaged physical and lightning) replaced with the new switches and cabling. My tower is a 70 foot Rohn 65 with a set of guys I mean slopers (3/8" guy strand) at 60 feet. After 2 major lighnting storms that wiped 98% of my shack out and several appliances in the house out I finally got all I needed to get back on the air. (Haven't done that yet still sitting on the back porch in boxes. Starting soon I'll get things in the shack. Not for sure if it hit the tower or if it came in the power service.) Any sugesstions let me know. Thanks wr0u Scott PS: Last time I got hit by lightning was in 1978 and it cut the wire into on my Gem Quad on the 20 meter driven element. The brats have been purchased. They will be the Johnsonville Beer Brats that we have had in past years. The picnic will be held at Karen's farm in Martelle. Jason has been doing some upgrades to antennas and towers. It will be interesting to see the progress he has made. The brats will be ready for eating close to 5PM. You are asked to bring something to share, something to drink, eating utensils and plate, and lastly something to sit on or in. The club will furnish the brats, buns, and relish, (ketchup-mustard-kraut) and napkins. We will have hot dogs for people that would prefer those over brats. I hope to see a lot of club members there. de W0AWL From t.cellman at mchsi.com Wed Sep 9 08:55:22 2015 From: t.cellman at mchsi.com (t.cellman at mchsi.com) Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2015 08:55:22 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [EIDXA] re picnic In-Reply-To: <1209025078.85163883.1441803121137.JavaMail.zimbra@mchsi.com> Message-ID: <1156618824.85178428.1441803322569.JavaMail.zimbra@mchsi.com> Hi again Another reminder for the club picnic. I have for sale a WORKING vintage Hallicrafters SX24 SkyRider Defiant receiver, with manual. (See photo attached.) Considering it is almost as old as I am (pretty old), it is in remarkable physical and operating condition. I only had to replace a few of the tubes and one capacitor to get it working. It is surprisingly quite sensitive. In fact, I currently have it connected to the TH-7 on my tower and was just copying a few UA?s on 20 meter CW. Funny, I had forgotten that with tube receivers, you have to wait for the tubes to warm up before you hear anything. I am asking $150, but will consider offers.
