[EIDXA] Clublog Leader board yes or no

Nelson,

You are to be congratulated, that is really a great effort. I agree with
your advice. At least try to get them for the rarer DXpeditions.
Unfortunately, "rarer" is not always that obvious so to be safe you just
work them all as soon as they show up. Be aware that this has caused more
than one divorce!

Your totals on 6 meters, and to some extent on 160, point out the folly of
the Challenge Award. The ARRL screwed it up by including 6 and 160 and I
think it would a challenge enough with 80 through 10. Deleting those bands
would make it fairer and it is theoretically possible that someone in the
Midwest, for example, could work them all on any band 10 thru 80. I suspect
that is marginally true on 160 given two great stations and the right prop
but I don't think it will ever be possible on 6 unless you do moon bounce.

73, Jim

Bob, if you ever thing that you might want to turn in band slots for the
Challenge Award, don't wait until retirement to start. Some of those band
slots won't be around again for many years due to the solar cycle and world
political intrigue. I started working band slots before the Challenge came
along, so when it arrived, I had a big head start. I'm still missing around
20 entities on 10 and 12 meters (need DXpeditions to those during solar
maxima), but I've worked down to less than 10 entities needed on 15/17/20
meters. P5 is the only one I haven't worked on 20 meter, confirming the
conventional wisdom that 20 meters is the best DX band if you have to choose
only one band. I'm near 300 on 30 and 40, a little over 200 on 80, and a
little over 100 on 160. 6 meter is the killer for us in Iowa, and I only
have 29 there. So go ahead and work what you can hear now, because you may
never get another chance.

Nelson, KU0A

Hunting band slots. A disease that hasn't struck me yet. Maybe when I
retire.

issue, about whether the ClubLog leader board feature is turned off for a
DXpedition improves the percentage of uniques or not. Analysis was done for
about 30 recent DXpeditions having both leader board turned off for some and
on for others. Conclusion, it has no statistical impact ! There seems to
be many other factors that influence percentage of uniques.
