Tom,

In the "Create a DX-pedition Funding Committee and the Tom HiseDX Fund"
section do we want to refer to our prioritization process?  This could go
two ways - we outline the selection criteria or we just identify the use of
our "evaluation" criteria/process.

While we discuss the other funding vehicles, we do not make any reference
to how we make decisions.  Just wondering if it is necessary/desired.

Just a reminder:

The next meeting of the Eastern Iowa DX Association will
be tomorrow, Friday October 17th at 7:30 PM, in Meeting
Rooms C-D in Iowa Hall on the Kirkwood Community College
campus.  (This room is just down the hall from the Amana
Room which we have used for our last few meetings. When
coming into the main corridor, turn right, away from the
Amana Room, to find rooms C-D.)  The program will be the
story of the FT5ZM Amsterdam Island DXpedition from
earlier this year, presented by the team leader, Ralph
Fedor, K?IR. Ralph has done this presentation at Dayton,
Friedrichshafen and W9DXCC. We are honored to welcome
him to our club!

45 hams answered the CQ call.

Introductions were made all around.



The treasurer's report was read. The balance sheet was shown to all

members on the overhead projector. Tracking of the Tom Hise DX fund was

explained. Report was approved.



The DXpedition selection spreadsheet was explained to members on the 
overhead projector.



Secretary's minutes of the July 2014 meeting was read and approved.



Tom, WB8ZRL provided details of the changes to the by-laws to accommodate 
the Tom Hise memorial fund.  Text was shown paragraph by paragraph on the 
overhead projector.   There were a few questions. The membership voted to 
approve the by-law changes as presented.



In accordance with the by-law revisions, a DX fund committee shall be formed 
consisting of three members. The sec/treas shall be one member, the second 
member shall be a member of the Honor Roll. The third member shall be 
selected from the membership.  The committee shall make future 
recommendations to the membership as to providing funds for DXpeditions. 
The committee shall be formed at the January 2015 meeting.



A request from W3ACO for an audit committee shall be formed. As per the 
by-laws, the audit shall have 3 members and be selected at the January 2015 
meeting. An audit shall be conducted after the January 2015 meeting.



The Club had elections for officers for the new year, 2015.  Jason, NR0X was 
elected as your new president.  He will have assistance from K0CF.  Jason 
will continue as webmaster.  Your other elected officers are Jerry, WW0E, 
vice president and newsletter editor, and Rich,  W3ACO sec/treasurer.



After a short break, Ralph, K0IR, provided an excellent presentation of the 
FT5ZM DXpedition.  Many questions were asked during the presentation. 
Ralph, thanks for coming down and making this special effort.

Our experienced team of fifteen is complete and is ready for the challenge. The weeks ahead will be extremely busy as the team has less than 90 days before the DXpedition comes on the air. 

January is the month of minimum bird nesting activity and this is the primary reason USFWS is asking that the operation be completed during that month. However, the weather is unpredictable in January and because Navassa is surrounded by cliffs, this may preclude a safe landing by boat. For safety reasons and in order to maximize our time on the Island and on the air, a helicopter operation is planned. Navassa is over 100 miles (160 km) from the nearest helicopter staging point and as many as ten round trips will be required at the beginning and end of the operation. Obviously, this means that there will be a significant cost for activating this #1 ranked DXCC entity. 

In the next few weeks, we be working with USFWS and as details firm up, we will issue periodic press releases. Check our webpage, http://www.kp1-5.com for more details of the operation and how you may financially support this DXpedition. 

The KP1-5 Project team has committed to fund 50% of the total costs. We are hopeful the DX community at large will fund the remainder.

Dear EIDXA:

I wish I would have known this last Friday when we had the EIDXA meeting....

We found out late Monday, had a conference call with FWS Tuesday afternoon,
tied up some loose ends this morning and went public early this afternoon.

The cost of helicopter transport is very pricy, but LESS than any barge or
vessel to service Navassa, plus the need for helicopter slings.    There are
larger vessels with helicopter, but the price is so astronomical that if I
told you, you wouldn't believe it!   The seas are the roughest in the month
of January, which would make even sling loads dangerous.   But since the
birds have their least nesting in January, that's when FWS says we go.
That leaves one option:  helicopter only, ground to ground.

We should know our exact dates within the next 2-3 weeks, as soon as FWS
books their government helicopter.

Time is short, LOTS to do in the next 6 weeks to get our container ready to
go to our staging point.

Individually, any support you can help us with, please do so on our website!
Navassa will be history when EIDXA meets again.

Hello everyone.

 

Glenn's good news about the upcoming trip to Navassa requires us to take
action before the next meeting. It has been suggested by Jim Spencer W0SR

Hise DX fund.   As this decision must be made sooner rather than later,  I

EIDXA: This is my vote to support the Navassa effort as proposed by President Jason, and should an alternate plan be proposed this e- mail will authorize Jason to vote my 
proxy as he sees fit,  as I am on the road and am not likely to be able to participate personally in any follow-up action.
