Guys, the Quad Cities Repeater Group W9QCR is working on a small fund
raiser, to raise a little money towards the repeater fund. A few weeks back
I had sent out a message about the DVB R820T Dongle. I was so impressed
with this little Gizmo that I ordered a few of them and we are offering
these for sale. If you are not familiar with what these things are or can
do I will try to explain a little.
The DVB Dongle was originally designed for Digital TV reception in Europe.
Then some guy way smarter than me figured out that it will also work as a
wide band Radio receiver, and he started to write the software to make it
happen. The result is a programmed called SDSharp. SDSharp is the basic
receiver software and there are many ad on,s you can download.
So what it is, is this...A Software Designed Radio Receiver that covers
from 24Mhz to 1.7Ghz with no real gaps. It will receive in
AM,FM,WFM,USB,LSB,CW,DSB with it you can use it as you would any receiver.
As an example most of all the local Police in the QCA are now using a radio
system know as Trunk-tracking if you wan to be able to listen to the cops
you have to spend $300.00 to $400.00 bucks for a nice desktop scanner from
Uniden
Personally I am into Aviation Comms, with my Dongle I can enter all the
local airport Freqs and it scans them all, I can also use it to decode
ACARS transmissions from planes in flight, and the newest thing is really
cool I can now track planes in flight on my own radar screen using this
little dongle.
You can also add a small Up-converter to these to make it able to receive
all of the HF bands too!
Here is a link to a short YouTube video I made showing you how it works,
there are tons of other videos on YouTube about this subject also..

These dongles cost about $20.00 to $22.00 on e-bay and a few other places.
The QCRG is selling them for $18.00 and if you want to make it $20.00 we
will be happy to take the extra, as I said all proceeds are for the
repeater fund. I have these at my office, just call me to be sure I will be
there if you would like to pick one up.309-792-6010
