Two Meters? Who uses 2M? Maybe I'll try again on my way to the meeting
tonight!

Cool!
I've been playing with one of those cheapo-matic Chinese radios. The
Beofeng UV-5R that I got for $40 on ebay. The mic jack on it is a
standard
1/8 inch, and you can plug it directly into the speaker output of the 2
meter rig. Tweak the vox a bit, and you have the same thing, but for $40
instead of $60, though you would need a receiver.
I also used an 1/8 inch stereo patch cord and connected it to my cell
phone,
running APRSDroid, and had a fully functioning APRS beacon that fit in my
pocket. I love that little hunk of junk!
Another idea would be to use a cheap FM stereo transmitter, and tune in
any
old FM radio. They make them for people who want to listen to their iPod
in
the car. Runs on 12 vdc, and plugs into the rig's speaker jack. I've seen
them for under $25 at Walmart. I've done that a few times, too. Range
sucks, unless you happen to know how to fabricate a better antenna for the
frequency, which is probably just about everyone reading this message.
The 3rd idea would be to install multiple 2-meter rigs all over your
house,
so you're never far from one! I kinda like that idea, personally! Hihi

I had a couple of unused Radio Shack intercoms and thought I would pass
this
idea to all. The intercom has an audio input that one can connect to the
speaker output of the radio. This input uses VOX to automatically switch
to
the TALK mode when it receives some audio. With the 2M/440 radio in the
basement, I can carry the intercom to the 1st or 2nd floor of the home and
hear the radio. The intercom accepts rechargeable batteries, so you
really
don't need AC power for the remote unit. They are available from time to
time on e-Bay.
Works very well.
