Minutes of the EIDXA meeting April 18, 2014

50 people answered the CQ call.

The treasurer's report was read and approved.

The minutes of the January 2014 meeting were distributed via the reflector in January and are in the April newsletter.

K0CF presented a crystal trophy to Tom, NY0V for winning the CQ marathon among EIDXA members in 2011. Tom captured 284 DX and all 40 zones for a score of 324. Tom was also the North American winner in 2011. Congratulations Tom!

NR0X discussed the results of the W1AW/O operations. The Iowa Team made 36,000 QSOs, A second chance to participate will be in December, led by W0GJ.

There was a discussion of the Tom Hise fund and whether or not EIDXA should become a 501c(3) charity organization. Information pro and con was provided by W0SR and WB8ZRL. W0AWL made a motion NOT to convert EIDXA into a charity group. The motion was passed by the club. WB8ZRL is working on changes to our by-laws to describe how the club will manage the funds. Details will be presented at our next meeting.

There were no new announced DXpeditions that warranted a donation from the club. The highest rated at #50 was ZD9TT in September, organized by I2YSB. No details yet.

Congratulations to Jerry, WW0E f or doing a first class job on our latest newsletter!

NR0X will put the EIDXA application form on our web page.

K0CF asked for new program materials for the next meeting. There were several suggestions but nothing was chosen. Stay tuned.

Craig, K9CT provided us with a presentation of low band DXing from Wake Island and Amsterdam Island. Craig described the antennas used on low bands from both DX locations. He described the difficult efforts to put up good low band receive antennas. Craig had tables of QSO information showing daily QSO counts from different regions and correlating them to K and A indices. Craig developed a novel graphical method of looking at grey line propagation by correlating QSOs and time with location and grey line movement. Overall, a new way of looking at low band propagation was provided.

Thanks Craig for a super presentation.
