Steve,

My apologies for not being able to respond sooner.

I use the embedded "Internet Connection" in DX4Win - my day to day logging
program. My link is to the W9ODD (?) node in the list. I chose that node
for two reasons - first is that it is in Madison which is "local" to us as
opposed to one of the other nodes on a coast. The other is that it uses
the VE7CC software that indicates a LoTW station with a "+" symbol in the
"entity" column just before the spot time. This is helpful for those
using LoTW for chasing band or DX credits.

Nothing unique - just embedded capability in the logging program.

As some other members have noted, however, using an internet connection
has a "flaw" depending on how you use your station. While linking to our
EIDXA Cluster hosted by WB8ZRL will allow you a long term connection,
linking to an internet connection may not stay connected for "days" at a
time. It is highly dependent on the daily level of activity and if you
are actively using the connection. (e.g. posting spots, etc.) A lot of
this is dependent on the local "servers" hosting the node.

My $0.02.

Rick

Well, here is what I ended up trying and am using at the moment to get
"Spots" it is called Spot Collector and you can see some information on
at this URL
http://www.dxlabsuite.com/spotcollector/Help/CollectingSpots.htm It has
perhaps more features than one needs but is able to access Packet
Clusters via TNC as well as via the internet and telnet. It has many
many filters built in and are all easily accessible unlike the Telnet
DOS like commands that I have used in the past. Take a look at the URL
and see if it meets your needs. It seems to build a data base of all
the spots and then it applies the filters to the data and displays them
according to your specifications.
