[EIDXA] K-3 Discussion on EIDXA

All,
From my readings of the K-3, it is noted that they are great in the receiver area but are less than stellar when it comes to their transmitter design.  Other radios are much cleaner in the IMD department, even some with crappy receiver specs.  Not sure if bandpass filters and coax stubs could help in TX crud help/elimination but that might be a hope if you are doing a mult op station.  The thought of another goup that was talking about radios is that the radio designers need to now start working on making radios that transmit clean signals.  Of course you'll still get the bright guys that think that they need to run all knobs to right and crank up the radio so the IMD is terrible but now they get 150 watts out of the old 100 watt radio.
My 2 cents
Kevin

Subject: [EIDXA] K-3 Discussion on EIDXA

It is always good to see some discussion on our favorite radios and which might be the best.  I know that I sure got a lot of input, some unsolicited, about my choice of a FT-2000 back in the olden times when I made a selection.  Of course, the FT-990, the FT-5000 and even the K-3 were unavailable at that time.  The IC-7800 was King in view of many, but certainly not all.  And, it was setting new price points for a top of the line radio.  That caused me to ask myself how good or radio do you need to listen to power line noise!

Back to the K-3.  Is anyone on one of the K-3 List Servers?  Perhaps someone could take a look and see what others are saying about the K-3.  I’m told on good authority that there IS a problem in the multi environment as Glenn mentioned and that Elecraft is aware of it and working on a fix.  I don’t think this is a secret and I would guess there would be a lot of discussion within the highly technical K-3 fan-base.  If someone can find any info, please share it with our group.  We have a number of wildly enthusiastic K-3 owners and others thinking of buying one.  Most, no doubt, will not be used in the multi environment so this is just a curiosity for them.
