<disclaimer> I have a K3 </disclaimer>

I think that if folks traveling with rigs, loaned or not, by a manufacturer have an opinion on the gear, they shouldn't be gagged by the manufacturer or anyone else
if they wish to express it. I'd hate to have dxpeditioner yes-men running about. If the gear is rugged and fit, I'd like to know about it. If their experiences were bad, and the company
intends to address it (or not) I'd like to know about that too.

In the case of Elecraft, I'd hope it could only serve to improve the gear; K3's have not been without problems (Just like ICOM or Yaesu, etc..). One need only follow the Elecraft reflector; folks have had major and minor
issues, some can be explained as operator error, and some not. There have been a number of hard and soft mods to deal with some of these issues. There are other problems that aren't widely publicized or don't have widely
distributed fixes for, and thats a bit disappointing, but, part of the game, I guess.
