I am emailling a response because I cannot attend this evening. I am
getting my wife KB0NRY out of the hospital this afternoon. She had shoulder
surgery and will need constant supervision while on pain medication.
My comments to the club:
I think Lew makes a good point. Honorary should be "in addition".
His protest is because he wants to be an active member of the club and
fully participate. This desire is something that should flatter all of us!
I think the previous wording was intended to relieve the honary member of
requirements, not restrict their activities.
I would suggest something to the effect of the following: (only changes to
sub-paragraph d)
4. Honorary Member.
a: Honorary membership may be awarded to any individual
in recognition of special service to the EIDXA or the
DX community as a whole;
b: A two-thirds vote of the Full members present at a
regular meeting of the EIDXA is required to confer
Honorary membership;
c: An Honorary member receives a membership certificate
and may use the club logo or club name to be
identified as a club member; and
d: An Honorary member does not pay dues, is eligible
to vote, and is eligible to participate in EIDXA
contest aggregate scoring if they maintain permanent
residence within 175 miles of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or
otherwise meets the club participation requirements of the
specifc contest. The honorary member may submit his score
under another club's aggregate score without effecting his
honorary EIDXA memebership.
I don't know if the last sentence is required, but thought I would throw it
out for debate. It is intended to relieve the honorary member of the
requirement to only submit under our banner.
I think we need a clarification on the voting status of associate members.
My understanding is that the associate members are not allowed to cast
votes. I have no problem with this, but it needs to be stated in the
by-laws.
Thanks
