I wanted to follow up a bit on my talk the other night. Joe and others
were interested in where to find APRS client programs. There are
several out there on the web, you can find them at these urls:

ftp://www.tapr.org/aprssig

  * DOSAPRS is available in the dosstuff subdirectory

  * WinAPRS and APRS+SA are available in the winstuff subdirectory.
WinAPRS uses several map formats. APRS+SA uses Street Atlas maps.

  * PocketAPRS is available for the Palm and compatible platforms in the
  palmstuff subdirectory.

  * XASTIR is available for linux platforms in the linux subdirectory.

  * MacAPRS is available in the macstuff subdirectory.

http://www.packetradio.org.uk/

  * UIView is a windows program for use with UI (unconnected information
frame) networks. It works well with APRS and is the one I use.

Also, a url for looking up my local weather data is:

http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=K0RX-5&radar=***&last=120

In fact, at http://www.findu.com you can read about all of the .cgi
scripts available at the worldwide APRS data server. Weather, tracking,
messaging, etc. are available there.

A site with lots of pointers and other information is

http://www.dididahdahdidit.com

The local APRS frequency is 144.390 MHz - 1200 baud packet. You need to
turn your TNC on so that it monitors UI frames. Each of the APRS client
programs listed above has detailed instructions about how to do this.

To see some of the telemetry available on the worldwide internet link,
telnet to first.aprs.net - this is a raw telemetry data feed, so be
ready for lots of good stuff ;-)
