Here is a hot flash from the Pacific this is tonight - 4 hours from now
they are on the other sideof thedate line
All,
It is 1912 UTC 17 April 2002 (UTC date) as I write this. We are very near
Tarawa island and expect to pick up our pilot soon. He takes us into the
lagoon and to the docks at Betio. Our best estimate is that we will be
docked by 2200 UTC (about 2 hours and 45 minutes from now). We estimate
about an hour to clear Customs. Then we have to go get our T30 amateur
license and get the gear off the ship and onto dry land. Estimate that
will
take another 2 hours. Therefore our best estimate for getting on the air
as
T30CXX is 0100 UTC 18 April. We will go with the three freq. +/- QRM:
28470, 21370, 14270. Will use the highest band that has propagation into
the midwest. Expected length of stay is 6 to 8 hours, so we may only get
to
be on the air 3 to 5 hours.
We are shut down on all other operations: MARS, HF Email, Amateur since we
are within territorial waters of Tarawa.
Please pass this information around to all interested parties. The
addressees are the only ones we could remember middle initials - HI.
