Hi Guys
George: Well, knowing what I was doing doesn't seem to be a big part of
this job...hi...I have not worked on any tube equipment in many years.
The Hakko vacuum desoldering tool is a wonderful piece of equipment. I
cleaned all the parts (I only used 2 or 3 original caps and 3 resistors.
The tube sockets cleaned up nicely, as did the switches.
And, if I do this again, I'll want to mark the transformer leads. I was
lucky to be able to figure them out easily.
Ed: thanks also. I'll check out the links, some were not good. I'd like
to write this up, but I should have taken 'before' pictures. I did put a
lot of money (and some time also) to this project. Probably the most
(except for the 723) was 10 rolls of #22 solid hookup wire, in the
proper colors. Oh, and the copper plating ($97 and change was more than
the wire, about 3x).
I think it was worth it. I've been looking on EBay and QTH.com for a 723
for a while. I never had one as a novice (1962). I was too hooked on 2
meter am. (I'm now 90% cw). I think the 723 is 'cute'. And I enjoy
(re)building. I also have a DX-40 that I'm rebuilding the same way, and
it will be sold on EBay.
I'm still looking for a 722 VFO. Doesn't need to be pretty. I'd like
original knobs. I don't care if the case has any extra holes. I does not
have to work.
