I always wondered if maybe HE somehow submitted the insurance claim
to UPS (even though I had the shipping form/receipt) and thereby turned
S&H into real money?

If he posts a reply, he'll probably say that I didn't answer his email
asking "how much do I owe you" so he just estimated the total cost and
sent me a check for that (which turned out to be a few cents over the
S&H alone), but the truth is that he changed email addresses between his
saying "Yes, I buy it for that much plus S&H" and the time I tried to
email him the total cost;  I had a devil of a time contacting him again;
eventually I snail-mailed the charges!
