Hi Gary,
When I worked them in Nov 2010, the opr said send direct to the JA buro.
I sent one direct without sae in Nov 2010 expecting
a buro reply. In June 2011 I emailed them (from their web site) and asked
status. Said the operators had returned and that a batch
had gone to ARRL in May 2011. They said yes when I asked if they would
reply to direct QSL/sase/IRC. Mailed direct with IRC
in July. 2 weeks ago I asked if they had rcvd it since I never got reply
They must keep vy good records because JA1CJP had them check
and I got reply from him and the opr I worked, JE5XYT. XYT said he had
sent my direct mailing and offered to mail another QSL direct.
I got it in 5 days! JCP offered if I didn't get the QSL to let him know
and he would sent another registered! I understand that JARL buro has
moved to a new address. I'd check their web site for it and ask how they
want direct/sae/IRC sent - i.e. do they want attention to 8J1RL
or to an operator. From what I can gather, the operators in Antarctica
personally send out the QSL's from the JA buro when they return
a year later. I'd also ask them about LOTW submissions.. So you can
let the ham community know if they work 8J1RL in 2011 that
they will have to wait at least a year until the operators there return
to Japan.
As of 2 weeks ago my W3 sorter said when he picked up his cards from the
W3 buro (Fred Laun K3ZO who lives near me)
there were no 8J1RL QSL's in the batch. I informed JA1CJP of this....
I'd suggest emailing JA buro with your questions (I'd give it to you but
deleted it). It might not be a bad idea to see if someone could
organize a bulk direct mailing with sae's etc to the JA buro - but I'd
ask them how they want to manage it...I can't begin to tell you how
helpful
and cooperative they are.
