01/09/2005:  Paul, WN6K, and Juan, W6NOW, will be going to Panama. They
leave San Diego August 31st and will arrive there the same day but in
the evening. After some rest they should be heading up the coast about
an hour from Panama Thursday, September 1st. They will be staying at a
place on the Pacific Ocean side on the beach. Their intention is to
primarily set up a station there to work the All Asian SSB test that
weekend. If things get setup quickly however, they should have G5RVs and
other wires up well before the contest period. After the AA test, we
will be doing some visiting with locals but should have some time to
check out 160-10 propagation allowing. W6NOW is from Panama but is a new
US Ham so his experience is limited. This is my first time operating out
of the US so we are testing the waters but I have a number of years
experience at low power contesting. So simply put WN6K and W6NOW will be
operating while on vacation as HP1/WN6K from September 1-13th. The will
try 160-10m, with an emphasis on WARC CW bands. Watch the clusters. QSL

01/09/2005:  Bruce KD6WW/VY0 and Mike K9AJ/VY0 will arrive in Kugluktuk
(formerly Coppermine) on August 31st and will operate from Blaze Island
(IOTA NA-175) September 1st. They will stay on the island overnight, and
then return to pickup some of their baggage that the airlines had
misplaced. They will then try to go to Chantry Island (in the Nunavut
West group - NEW IOTA), for several days???... they could not be more
specific, because of weather conditions, etc. and on their way back they
will stop again on NA-175 for several days, before having to be back by
the 7th to catch their plane home. Please understand all this
information is not written in stone, and that Mike and Bruce are trying
their best, and will certainly give everyone a good shot at the new IOTA

01/09/2005:  An Egyptian team consisting of Karim SU1KA, Mohammed SU1KM,
Ezzat SU1ER, with the co-operation of guest operators from Italy with
the call SU/???? will be active from Gifton Island (AF-New), with the
permitted / licensed call SU8GFTN, during September. Details will be

01/09/2005:  Don, NK6A, plans to be active as VE7/NK6A from Strathcona
Park located on Vancouver Island (IOTA NA-036, CIsA BC-001 for the
Canadian Islands Award), British Columbia, until September 6th. This
will be a CW QRP only operation with a KX1 running 3 watts. Don will be
hiking, canoeing and Kyaking on Vancouver Island for the next 9 days. He
plans to be on at night on 40 or 30 meters and try early mornings on 20
meters with possible late afternoons Pacific Coast time on 20 meters.

01/09/2005:  Rex, VK7MO, will activate Christmas Island (IOTA OC-002) as
VK9XMO on 2 meter EME using digital modes (no HF) September 1-22nd. QSL

01/09/2005:  Phil, WA2ART/1, will be on the air from Johnson Island
belonging to The Thimbles (IOTA NA-136, USI CT-New!), Connecticut,
mostly at the weekends throughout September. He will work with QRP power

01/09/2005:  Paolo, IK1ZYW, will be QRV September 1-4th as 9A/IK1ZYW
from Rab Island (IOTA EU-136, ACIA IC-168, CIA-38, IOCA CI-096, MIA
MC-330). He plans to participate in the IARU VHF Contest (September

3-4th from Texel Island (IOTA EU-038). They plan to participate in the

03/09/2005:  Ric, DL2VFR, will be QRV September 3-12th as SM6/DL2VFR

04/09/2005:  On September 4th, Les Allwood intends to work on 40 and 80
meter SSB from "Oud kasteel de Lovie" (BCA reference WV-011, for the
Belgian Mills Award) in West Flanders, as ON/G3VQO/P, starting from
09:30 local time (07:30z). Time permitting, he will also work from

04/09/2005:  Look for Michael, DK5NA, to be active September 4-23rd as
OZ/DK5NA/p from Roemoe Island (IOTA EU-125, DIA NS-001 for the Danish
Islands award). Activity will be mostly on the lower bands, CW, RTTY and

05/09/2005:  Look for Klaus, DJ4JI, to be QRV September 5-10th as

07/09/2005:  Bill, K4XS, will be active as AL0/K4XS from Saint Paul
Island (IOTA NA-028, USI AK-041S, 3rd S. Central county), Pribilof
Islands, Alaska, between September 7th and 15th. He expects to be active
on 20 and 40 meter CW from 0000 - 0700 UTC daily, time permitting. There

09/09/2005:  Kyle, WA4PGM, will be QRV September 9-13th as VP9/WA4PGM
from the island of Bermuda (IOTA NA-005). His activity will include
entries in the WAE SSB, ARRL VHF and NA SPRINT CW contests. Outside of

LOOKING AHEAD -

10/09/2005:  Starting September 10th until October 3rd the Dutch VRZA
will be operating from Qawra (JM75fv) on the Island of Malta (IOTA
EU-023, MIA MM-001). Call sign for the group will again be 9H0VRZ. Group
members may also use their individual 9H3 callsign. Activity will be on
all bands from 80 to 6 meter CW, SSB and Digi modes; and a 160 meter
operation is planned from Baghria together with the Maltese amateurs
using a 150 ft high antenna. We will try to activate the special call
9H0VRZ for the whole period and hope for good conditions. Nico, PA0MIR
who will try and operate in both legs of the SAC contest and may try
some casual operation in the WAE SSB. Also he may look for Oceania
stations the first weekend of October if the antennas will stay up in

16/10/2005:  Dirk, PA9KW, will be active as VK5AUQ from Australia (IOTA
OC-001) with Ben, VK5ZZM, between October 16th and November 14th.

SPECIAL EVENTS -

01/09/2005:  Industry Canada has authorized the use of special call sign
prefixes to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Terry Fox's run across
Canada. The prefixes are as follows and will be in effect from September
1st to 30th: VE = XM, VA = XL, VO = XN and VY = XO. All Canadian Radio
Amateurs are encouraged to use these special prefixes for the month of

03/09/2005:  The special callsign TM0JPL will be aired September 3-4th
on all HF bands, and more, on all modes. This to commemorate the
twinning of the cities of Lerin (Spanish Navarra) and Pompignac (South
France near Bordeaux). A very large team composed of EA2CCG - EA2MQ -
EA1CSU - EB2BOF - EB1AWX - EA2ATU - EA2ANW (pr&eacute;sident de la
Urde - Union de radioaficionados de Estella, Urde section President),
F5TBX - F6FZI - F6ABN - F1ICS - F2BJ - F8BBL - F2VX - F6EXV - F5OZF -
F5RXL, and even others, will be active behind keys, mikes and keyboards.

commemorate the beginning of oil wells in Canada, as included in the
