First Activation

We will be QRV from Farrar Island, VA-009 and perhaps Hatcher Island,
VA-008 tomorrow approximately 1600Z - 2200Z operating as K4CQY to
qualify the Islands. We may operate as W4UVA for a portion of the
contest as well. W4UVA is the long dormant callsign of the University of
Virginia Radio Club. This call has not been used in at least 10 if not
20 years.

Please listen for us and give us a call, these islands have never been
activated according to the USI website. So, hopefully this will be a new
one for US Island Hunters. Access to Farrar Islands looks to be
relatively simple barring any unforeseen complications. Hatcher Island
will be a bit more complicated but maybe we will be able to activate it
this weekend. If not we plan to return soon for that purpose.

I attempted to make contact with USI folks, but have received absolutely
no response. This is most unfortunate. Hopefully we will be able to
qualify one or both of these islands this weekend. Please share our
announcement by any means available so that people will know we're
working the QSO party.

If you know any reason these have not been activated PSE(!) let me know.
I will not be able to check mail while on our "DXpedition" (grin) so if
anyone would be so kind as to call me (COLLECT IS FINE!) I'd GREATLY
appreciate at least having a chance to talk to someone about this.
Nonetheless I'll go in blind and hope I can at least qualify the
island(s).
