For many years, I have always wondered why some of the European computer
users of DXbase2007 - could NOT use my BRIDGES successfully!!


Now - Eric (ON7RN) -- has SOLVED the answer to that question..


Here are the words I just rcvd from Eric:

      I was talking with one of my friend (ON5PV) who is also a DXBase      user, and he tried your bridge without success. So, I have had a      look at my config and see that I had also installed the keyboard      English version (US version). Will this work with WSJT-X ver 1.8?

My Bridge is ver. 2.00 for WSJT-X 1.6.

I had NOB as well as ENG US keyboard installed om my W10 PC. Bridge 
shows green light for Log and Pgm, but never for File found or QSO logged.

After good news from Eric I also installed ENG INTL keyboard.

With WSJT-X (containing the new and very popular FT8 mode) it does not 
work here.

Knut,

You must install the ENG US keyboard version. It works very well here 
now. And it works also for Phil - ON5PV after a lot of test (after he 
has installed the US version). So, we are 2 happy guys now.

It still does not work here. As I mentioned earlier tonight, I have 
installed ENG US keyboard. Joe's last version of the bridge gives me two 
green lights, but still nologging from WSJT-X to DXbase 2007.

I even installed the English language on my PC. Still no success.

There must be another secret to unveil.

 II - and my WSJT-X BRIDGE

 I have been working with Earl N5ZM tonight - trying to get
my WSJT-X 1.8.0-rc1 BRIDGE to work for him..

Here is his setup:     DELL Computer running Windows10
and he is using the MicroHam Microkeyer II  --  everything
for my BRIDGE is setup correctly on his DELL Computer..
We can see that the WSJT-X program is making the wsjtx_log.adi
file all ok ..  BUT,  all of the normal exe files that need to be
"Run as Adminstator" are checkmarked as such - all ok ...

MY BRIDGE will not see the  wsjtx_log.adi file and do it's thing
on this file ...  I do not run a MicroHam Microkeyer II -- so, I 
do not know if the microkeyer is making it impossible to use
my BRIDGE -- or, if it is something in his DELL computer that
might be causing it..  We doublechecked to make sure his
computer is using the  English (United States)  keyboard - YES!!!


Is any other DXbase2007 user running a MicroHam Microkeyer II
and IS HAVING SUCCESS with running my WSJT-X BRIDGE??

Hello

What is path  of this log file? He have changed permition to read/write to the folder?

It can "be" hidden or no rigth to use the folder if NOT change all access write/read of windows 10 home edition!!

I sat down for 10 hour with multiple issues with other software as not could run on 2 of my computer... 

I had no admin rigths on the folders, programfiles(x86) can be an issue etc.

On my Win 10 pro had different and not such problems!!

GM Joe,

I'm using also a Microham but the DIGI KEYER 1. And you know that your 
bridge is working very well here. Phil, ON5PV, is using a SignaLink. And 
your bridge is also working by him.

The only thing I can say is that when I'm using your bridge, there is no 
wsjtx_log.adi created. When I'm using only the WSJT_X program without 
your bridge, the log adif is present. Strange or not ?
So, it's maybe not the microham but something others.

That's my piece of cake.

I run Win 7 with Signal Link and the Bridge did run OK...
However, I must have both DXBase and WSJT-X running before starting the Bridge.
I discovered that the Bridge does "remove" wsjtx_log.adi and any attempt by me to recover it causes a flash in the file list as the new file is "removed" somewhere???
So, as a consequence of no adif log file, WSJT-X cannot see prior QSOs etc which caused me several duplicates on the bands yesterday.
A windows file search cannot located any file named wsjtx_log.adi in my system.  So I don't know how the Bridge works but that particular log file is "gone".
Maybe this is more confusion Joe...  but I hope it helps you.

When my BRIDGE is active, you will not see the wsjtx_log.adi  file.
My BRIDGE checks for the existence of the file and once detected,
it opens the file and sends the info directly to DXbase2007 - THEN DELETES
THE FILE..  If you have the File Explorer open to the directory where
the wsjtx_log.adi  file is at, and you keep it in view when you Log the QSO -
you will see the filename come up and then within a second it is gone.


The running LOG FILE is called   wsjtx.log

BY NOT USING MY BRIDGE -- The wsjtx_log.adi file can be used to collect
the QSOs (in the adi file) - and then you can IMPORT that adi into DXbase2007.
Once imported, you can DELETE the file and let  the WSJT-X program start
to make a new  wsjtx_log.adi  file..


BY USING MY BRIDGE - the wsjtx_log.adi file contents will be sent automatically
to DXbase2007 - then since the entry is now in DXbase2007 - the file is DELETED
so that another QSO can be caught/detected.


Remember that you do not have to use my BRIDGE. You can IMPORT the
wsjtx_log.adi file at your convenience.

Joe, the Dell Machine that works is an I5 instead of the I7.  The non-working machine is a Dell I7.  Both machines are running the same version of Win 10 Pro and both are 64 bit systems and each have 8gb of ram.  Both machines are Dell Inspiron and are around 2 years old.

Eric, W4DXX here.  
I am successfully running WSJT-X for FT8 using the Bridge into Dxbase 2007 using Microham USB Router and a Digikeyer 2.  
Using a Dell Workstation running Win 7 Pro 64 and English US keyboard of course.  No problems encountered here or during install of the Bridge.  Worked first time. Maybe I can answer some questions about the set up here that will help identify problems others are having. 
I am currently not at home in front of the station but maybe I can still answer a question about set up or be of some help.

Reading the HELP FILES for WSJT-X:

The log file wsjtx_log.adi is updated whenever you log a QSO fromWSJT-X.  (Keep in mind that if you erase this file you will lose all?worked before? information.)  You can append or overwrite thewsjtx_log.adi file by exporting your QSO history as an ADIF filefrom another logging program.  Turning Show DXCC entity and workedbefore status off and then on again will cause WSJT-X to re-readthe log file.  Very large log files may cause WSJT-X to slow downwhen searching for calls.

Since George is SPOT-ON .. The only thing that I can say is -
if you want the "worked before" feature to work - then DO NOT USE my BRIDGE!!

If you do not use my BRIDGE and allow the wsjtx_log.adi file to 
gather ALL of the QSOs - then when you are ready to IMPORT
(manually) the adi file into DXbase2007 - Be sure to  checkmark the 
"Load if not worked" option - that way you will not try to create DUPE
QSOs.

Thanks for your update.  I still think your approach was brilliant and very useful to many of us using WSJT-X.  Thank you for all of your work on this.

 After thinking about all of the problems with the WSJT-X Bridge that
I made, my recommendations would now be:

(1)  If you want to use the ?worked before? feature that WSJT-X has
DO NOT USE my Bridge.  

(2)  If you have been using my Bridge and the wsjtx_log.adi is deleted - BUT,
no info is logged into DXbase2007 - DO NOT USE my Bridge. And you can use
the wsjtx.log file to manually input your QSOs that you have already made up to that point.

(3)  If you DO NOT care about the "worked before" feature - And, you have
been successful in auto-logging QSOs into DXbase2007 using my WSJT-X
Bridge - and, you WANT to still use my Bridge -- pse use it.

(4)  If in doubt - DO NOT USE my WSJT-X Bridge.

Guys - I am REALLY SO SORRY about this!!  It was MY BAD and I surely do have
EGG-ON-FACE!!!

My "DX info" window has gone blank

I'm sure I read about this before but Yahoo groups search function is 
pretty useless with 2 common words

I remember a file has to be deleted but which one?

Thanks to Ian G4GIR for forwarding a previous email conversation with 
Joe WA6AXE (who else!!!)

I replaced two PKT*.WID files and GL.WID from another working copy on my 
work laptop and it is now all Ok

I am running DxBase2007 and windows 10 with dual monitors and the 
windows won't stay were I put them on the second monitor. The main 
monitor is numbered two and is on the left if that makes a difference. 
This worked fine with windows XP and the same monitors. Any help you can 
give on this problem would be greatly appreciated . Mike w0mb

the main monitor

Not that I have ever trued, I like radios in my shack not screens :-)

DX Base works perfectly fine here with monitor 2 as the default startup monitor.

Windows 10 Pro, 3 monitors.


I tested, and I can have it default to either 1 or 3 also if I wish.
