Does anyone know how to get DxBase to log 60 meter QSO's properly?

Every time log a QSO, DxBase says its "USB" even when the radio says "CW"?

Larry,

Try Tools>Options>User Options>Log Defaults. Look at your QSO Mode for 60.
Perhaps you can change the QSO Mode to CW if it is showing SSB.

Larry,

I don't think trying to change the Log Defaults in DXBase will work due to 
the channelized frequencies in the 60M band.  There are no upper or lower 
band limits to indicate which mode should be logged based upon the VFO 
frequency.

However, I am not understanding your problem with your radio setting not 
being picked up by DXBase.  Do you have the radio interfaced to DXBase via 
CAT?  I have my computer connected to my microKEYER II via a USB connection 
and then the microKEYER II to the IC-7600 via a virtual port.  With this 
setup DXBase logs whatever the radio operating mode is set to.

For instance with the radio set to USB and the frequency of 5357.0 (Channel 
3) when I log a call DXBase records the frequency as 5357.00 and the mode as 
USB.  If I change the mode to CW and tune the VFO to 5358.5 (Channel 3 CW 
center frequency) and log a call DXBase records it as 5358.50 and the mode 
as CW.  For PSK I change the mode back to USB set the frequency to 5357.0 
(Channel 3) and then in my PSK software (DXBase PSK) set the TX audio to 
1500.  When I log a call then, from within DXBase PSK, it logs it as 5357.00 
with a Mode of DIGIT and a Submode of PSK31.

Note that this all happens without making any changes to the Log Defaults 
section in DXBase.  If your radio is CAT controlled via a com port it should 
pick up the various modes directly from the radio.

Are you on vfo ' a '.  If I remember, Dxbase only reads vfo a, so if your
cw is on vfo.   It won't know it

Just a heads-up about a callsign that are in the AMBIGUOUS category for Prefixes ...

Just saw that the callsign TO2EE will be used from St.Barthelemy (NA-146)
on December 12-19, 2015. This callsign will default to France(F) 
because of theAlias Map table mapping.
 
This callsign is not currently MAPPED in the CALLMAP table -- so, if you want,
simply make a dummy QSO with this callsign and change the PREFIX column
of your logbook mdb file to FJ and then when the pop-up asks you if you want
to save this TO2EE mapped to FJ -- say YES/OK ---- Then delete that dummy QSO ..
 
The CALLMAP table will now be updated in advance so that if you work this
station -- it will have the correct PREFIX in your logbook QSO window ...

There had been some discussion about the wrong mode being logged with DXBase
on 60M. I tried a fix in the bandmap. Preliminary checking seems to work
fine. This may not work for those outside North America. We are quite
restricted to just 5 channels only with fixed frequencies for CW and SSB so
this seems to work here. I clicked on DX callouts from the DX window. It
sets up my K3 to the correct freq and mode. I tried logging some calls based
on the frequency and mode of the K3 and it entered properly in the log. So
far so good. I don't know if I missed anything yet.

 

As an example in the bandmap.

 

Start frequency - 5403

End frequency - 5404

Mode - USB

 

Start frequency - 5405

End frequency - 5405

Mode - CW

 

I did a similar thing to all 5 channels.

I have R35NP in my log, but logged as UA - European Russia. It is actually the Russian Arctic Drifting Station "North Pole-35", reported by QRZ.COM to be at the North Pole in ITU Zone 75 (log date dated 2008-04-14). It does not seem to fit into the CQ Zone framework. Clublog lists this QSO as invailid How can this QSO be logged correctly in DXbase? It is not a DXCC country but more in the /mm category. It would be nice to have this in my log in the proper way.

After completing the ARRL Number One Honor Roll, I needed another challenge.
I decided Band/Modes was it.  It's a good chalgen but hard to keep track
with some Confirmations coming from LOTW and other by cards.  I need a
report that would keep track of my progress.

This is when you call in the Calvary - Joe (WA6AXE).  I don't need to tell
you what this man can do.  You all have seen the support he has provided to
the DxBase community!!  In a couple of days, Joe developed a report for me
that did most everything I wanted, except for a couple of things.  Of
course, Joe added those and a couple more enhancements!

Fantastic!  Thanks again Joe for all you do for us.  You are the greatest!!

Subject: [Dxbase] LOTW confirmations

I recently updated all my LOTW contacts not previously checked with the DXCC desk.  Rather than have to go into dxbase and manually update all 447 contacts as accepted for DXCC, is there a way to globally import the change?

Is DXbase 2007 debugged well enough to know that it will work properly with Windows 10? DXbase 2007 has been working great?for me on Windows 7, ?so I wanted to wait until all was well before making the change. DXbase is a great product and I have been greatly supported by Joe as it has evolved. I have used it since it was a baby...

Neil,   any chance there is a way to add a new band to DXbase
or you add it and I get a file or ??

I operate 630 meters under an experimental license and would
like to log some of those contacts,   I need 630M or 475KHZ
added as a band when logging.
Actually need 135KHZ added as well as that is the other "new"
band 2200M .
What say please?

I thought my PC and DXBase were OK after a recent forced update (thanks 
Microsoft) from Windows 7 to Windows 10 while DXBase was running, but 
after the dust settled I cannot initialize tables. When I attempt to 
initialize the DXBase tables a "No Current Record" error message pops 
up, and after closing that window DXBase stalls with a short green bar 
in the Creating Statistics Tables window.  I can close the Initialize 
Table Data window, and the logging window appears intact (I can see my 
recent QSOs).  Attempting to display my DXCC statistics (Output, HF 
Numeric Statistics) results in that same "No Current Record" pop-up 
window followed by a blank listing (as if I have no QSOs at all) in the 
DXCC Statistics window.

How can I recover from this mess?

Thanks for your very quick reply.  It's reassuring to know that my data 
is secure.  However, I never did bother to make the DXBase help files 
work on Win7 (let alone Win10), so I can't refer easily to the Help 
procedure you referenced.  I dug through the DXBase reflector messages 
and found Neil's PDF version of the Help file, and I followed the 
procedure on page 172 there.  I needed to use the Ugdxbase.exe file you 
mentioned rather than following this step in the PDF since I don't seem 
to have a DXBase Program Group on this machine:

/4.From the DXbase Program group, run the DXB Import utility. The TARGET 
will be the newly created database//
//that you created in step 1 above. The SOURCE will be the original 
database that is now corrupted. The import type//
//will be version of DXbase you are running./

I also did not see the "Load All Records" option in the import program, 
but in any event the program did seem to properly import all 25,000+ 
QSOs with the exception of five that had oddball prefixes (Z6 and T1) 
that were not recognized.  After this process I was able to initialize 
tables.

However, when I try to run my HF Numeric Statistics, DXBase crashes and 
exits, and Windows10 presents a message to that effect.

DXBase does seem to know about my HF statistics since it properly issues 
alerts for needed DX from the Internet Cluster window.

Any further troubleshooting suggestions?

After a bunch more playing around with DXBase after the import to the 
virgin database as Joe suggested, I have determined that the HF and 
VHF/UHF Statistics work OK for all categories except the HF countries 
category.  In other words, the zones/states/WPX/IOTA/etc all work, but 
the HF Numeric Stats (for countries ONLY) crashes DXBase.  And, as 
mentioned below, the program does seem to know what band-countries I 
need as evidenced by correctly alerting from Internet spots.....but 
DXBase just cannot generate the table of that same information in the HF 
Numeric Stats window.  This is very strange.

Just to cover all bases, the REG file does include my AJ6T callsign as 
indicated by the DXBase HELP-ABOUT option.

Neil.....what do you suggest?

Walt

The procedure Joe suggested is the fix for this (create a new database in
DXBase, quit DXBase, start the DXBase Import program, migrate the old log
into the new database, start DXBase using the new database, recalculate the
numbers).

Are you sure you started DXBase back up with the new database instead of
the old one?

Yes, I am very sure I am using the new database.  My old database was 
AJ6T.mdb, and the new one is AJ6T-Recovered.mdb.

What is the meaning of the "Current Record?"

The SUMMARY window suddenly became corrupted this morning.
I have some experience with this problem and delete sviewhf both files.After that DXBase was opened again, Summary appered as blanc.When i try to close DXBase I get message (in russian lenguage smg like "Wrong;?inadmissible;?intolerable,?impossible?argument" - my translation to English.
The only way to get out - is rebooting of computer.
Windows7 32 bits, DXBase2007 v.1.10 ?
What shell we do?

It does not remove if you remove and reinstall DXbase.  If you delete 
that you will get rid of the "unable to shut down" issue

 Nick's computer took the WORST HIT that I have ever run into ...

His  UX4UA.mdb file was corrupted (STATS area).

His  SVIEWHF files had been corrupted.

and

His  Dxb2007.ini file in the WINDOWS directory had been corrupted.

The cure of ALL of his problems took a while to find - and, yes, the cure
for the pop-up error about the improper argument was to rebuild/remake
a new dxb2007.ini file ...

I have never seen this massive of a hit to the DXbase2007 program.  Nick is
going all ok now..

Just a heads-up about a callsign that are in the AMBIGUOUS category for Prefixes ...

Just saw that the callsign TO90R will be used from REUNION ISLAND
on December 19, 20, and 26, 2015. This callsign will default to France(F)
because of the Alias Map table mapping.

This callsign is not currently MAPPED in the CALLMAP table -- so, if you want,
simply make a dummy QSO with this callsign and change the PREFIX column
of your logbook mdb file to FR and then when the pop-up asks you if you want
to save this TO90R mapped to FR -- say YES/OK ---- Then delete that dummy QSO ..

The CALLMAP table will now be updated in advance so that if you work this
station -- it will have the correct PREFIX in your logbook QSO window ...

G      - From 1 January to 31 December 2016 the  prefixes  GK,  MK, and  2K
         will indicate a station operating from Cornwall and  the Isles  of
         Scilly. The Regional Secondary Locator "K" stands for Kernow,  
i.e.
         Cornwall in Cornish language, and has been  made  available for  a
         period of up to  one  year  on  a  temporary  and  optional basis.

In my Dxbase
2K maps to GJ - WRONG
GK maps to G OK
MK is not mapped at all!

GK0JFK was used once before in the quite distant past (early 80s) from 
the JFK Memorial at Runnymede, technically a small piece of land which 
is US territory near London but doesn't count as such for DXCC!

I see that the ARRL is going to update the TQSL program for the National Parks on the air activity for 2016. Will this? mean that DXBase needs to be updated too?

9) How will I be able to mark my operation from an NPS?Unit in LoTW?
The 2016 release of TQSL 2.2.x will allow users to create station locations that include an NPS unit. THat release should be out by mid-December 2015.

After being mostly ?off the air? for the last year, I learned, again, what
what a really good logging system DXBase 2007 is. Within a day I was back to
logging, using DX Atlas, uploading and down loading from LOTW and using
many of the standard reports every day. I decided, on the 17th of December,
to try to work 100 countries for the year ? 2 countries worked before the 17th. I was constantly
using the reporting system to update what I had worked and sending QSL?s via
LOTW. I am running Windows 7 and DXBase performed flawlessly. I am sure there
is other functionality that people would like, including me, but the current product
is a very functional and robust product. Thanks to all that have helped make it what
it is.
