[Dxbase] cw interface and windows 7

is there any way to fool windows 7 and aftermarket com ports to be set in
the dxbase cw utility, so that it will recognize com3 ( in my case)

I made the keying circuit in a db9 shell, but it will not key in dxbase,
and I think it is the com port (3e8) setting, that is not there..

it appears to only support up to xp, so maybe through hamscope or
something. has anyone else had success???
