Here is the installation instructions to properly install DXBase 2007 on a
Vista or Windows 7 computer:
1. Download the DXBase 2007 program at
http://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/files/DXBase/Dxb2007.zip and have your
registration file.
2. Unzip the .zip file to expose the .reg file. If you are running a 64 bit
version of Vista/Windows 7, right-click on the reg file and select 'Edit'.
In Notepad, replace the following line:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Scientific Solutions\Dxb2007]
with this line:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Scientific Solutions\Dxb2007]
Save the modified reg file.
3. Double click the .reg file and when asked if it's ok to store in
registry, you should say yes. If you get a stern warning from Vista or
Windows 7 about clicking the registration file is dangerous, do not worry,
its loading the registration key into your system registry. If you can
ignore the warnings, its okay. If, however, it blocks you from doing the
registration, go to the Control Panel, select User Accounts and click on the
hyperlink to change your User Account Control settings. Move the slider to
the bottom (no warnings), click OK and then double-click the registration
file again. After the reg file has been installed, go back and reset the
User Account Control slider to the middle of the control.
4. Save the .reg file to a floppy, thumb drive, CD, or some media off of the
hard drive for backup.
5. Create a new directory at the base of your main disk drive called Dxb2007
(ie., C:\Dxb2007\)
6. Run the DXBase installer. After the screen where you enter your callsign,
there is a prompt on where to install the program. DO NOT ACCEPT THE
DEFAULT!! Change the installation directory to the directory you created in
step 5 above. After changing this setting, you can go ahead and let the
installer do its work.
7. After the installer has finished. Open the directory where you installed
DXBase (ie., C:\Dxb2007). Find Dxb2007.exe . Right click on the file and
select Properties. When the Properties window appears, click on the tab that
says Compatibility. At the bottom of the window you will see a checkbox that
says "Run this program as an administrator". Click on the box to make it
selected. Then click Apply and OK to close it out.
8. Repeat the same action as described in step 7 for the programs
Dxbutility.exe, Ugdxbase.exe and Import.exe
9. Find the file called Hosts in the Dxbase 2007 installation directory.
Right click on it and select Copy. Now go to
C:\Windows\System32]\drivers\Etc\ and right-click in the window and select
Paste.
10.. Microsoft changed the format of Help files from the way DXBase has
them, so you will need to install their reader in order to access the help
files. You can download it here

11. Download the prefix update file at
http://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/DXBUpdater-105.zip to bring your database
up to date!
Thats it!
