Ron,
It is strongly recommended by Neal to do just that .. place it in the
C:\DXbase2007
directory ...
The current INSTALLER will call the DEFAULT install as being in the above
directory ...
Of course, you CAN change that -- but, with DXbase, Neal has always recommended
that you place DXbase in a directory right off of the C:\ directory -- with a directory
of it's own ... This is the safest method to install DXbase and not have Windows 7
do it's own thing ... This way - you have much MORE CONTROL on what happens.

On Windows 7 does one install v1.09(beta) in, for example c:\dxbase rather than c:\program files\...?

ALL:
This current INSTALLER has gone through some darned good testing (Alfa testing and initial Beta testing).
We are now in the middle-final stages of the BETA phase - and the current installer feels and runs -- VERY GOOD!!!
It will install NICELY on an XP machine; Windows 7 32-bit machine; and Windows 7 64 bit machine ..
I am personally not aware yet of anyone testing it on a VISTA machine. But, it installs GREAT on
the machines I mentioned!!!! The Installer is very self-explanatory!!
The current installer can be downloaded from the DXbase YAHOO Group website at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dxbase/links
Look for the words:
DXBase2007_109.zip
Link to Beta installer
for DXBase 2007 v9
Now - whether you should install this version 1.09 -- really and truely, only you can answer
that question!! I personally am "pleased as punch" with the current installer!!
We ARE still in the BETA Phase of testing -- so, if you are the type of person who wants
to wait until things shake-out completely -- and you are happy with your current version ..
Stay with it for now ... I would highly recommend the upgrade though.. there are things to be gained.
These gains have already been spelled out in previous emails to the reflector(s) from both
Neal and myself.
The great part is that you CAN KEEP your current version on your computer - and still install
the newest INSTALLER (ver 1.09) ... JUST BE SURE to RENAME the dxb2007.ini file that is in
your computer's WINDOWS directory ... you will then be able to check-out Version 1.09 ---
and still have your older
version there on the computer -- then -- if you decide that you
don't want Version 1.09 -- Uninstall it and delete the dxb2007.ini file that the NEW INSTALL made --
and immediately RENAME that old dxb2007(bak).ini (that you renamed earlier) -- back to being
dxb2007.ini ... and, you are back in service with your older version ..
That's really it !! It is really very simple one you go through it - just one time..
TNX to NEAL for a GREAT Version 1.09 ...
