[Dxbase] My 2 cents on "new" dxbase

I caught hell for my 2 cents worth a few years ago.
2007 is what it is and not easy to work with. Thank god it is being reworked.
It would be a loss to the hobby if this program went away for good. The idea of
its capabilities had changed the hobby and many had radio programs designed
there's with some of the features of DXBase. Other people went out and saw what
others were doing with their programs and DXBase changed a bit because of it.
Windows versions changed and so did DXBase. Some programs have programed them
selves into a corner, some redesigned and a couple of them did not.
The updater I feel is the key to having the program evolve and have a good
operating program. So you want to get it right. Having these changes is a sign
of the owners intent of having a good product, making it reliable, keeping up
with new radio capabilities, correcting glitches, being user friendly and the
sort.
I could run a list of what I liked and dis-like about various programs I have
ran in the past after leaving DXBase. Contrary of belief, other programs have
similar issues, along with different issues. Each program has their unique
problems. So in my case, I had to decide what unique problems I did not want to
deal with.
Stick it out until the new version is ready. Your not missing out on much for
what the other programs are doing out there. They are basically cleaning up
things that do not work right. No great break throughs.
One program comes to mind. They are now concentrating on radio interface and
issues that it has. Yet it is your basic generic logging program that only
covers 2 or 3 awards and charging a bundle of money for it and for updated
versions of the program. Like I said before it is a program that is out there
that has its unique problem that cannot hold a candle to DXBase, and I am glad
it is not DXBase.
Stay on course, fight a good fight, and keep the faith. Jim K9TF/WA9YSD
