[Dxbase] Label Prefix - Why K4A?

There is something I don't understand about Prefix and U.S.A. callsigns
generated in the label database, this is the prefix that I use to sort my
cards on before packaging them up for the bureau. I am not suggesting for
an moment DXbase has a problem, it is as an outsider, the prefixes used for
American calls seem to have some idiosyncrasies to me.
For example: I printed a QSL cards for W4UCZ today, I would have expected
the prefix which I sort on would be K4, but instead it comes out as K4A. I
see this from time to time with certain calls but not all calls. Now if I
choose W4CU the prefix information is K4 and I see no obvious reason as to
the difference, how come?
