TO all:
I also have been looking this OMNI-VII situation.
I am using a program called "Free Serial Port Monitor".
This program literally monitors what happens on the
Serial Port.. and, with it, even though I do not have
a TenTec OMNI-VII, I "can see" what is being sent out
of the Serial Port ..
I took a "known to work ok" program called "Omni-Rig Client"
by VE3NEA -- and monitored the Serial Port for what that
program sent out when I told it to QSY to a certain FREQuENCY.
Sure enough - the VE3NEA program OUTPUT the FREQ I told it,
as a FULLY converted BINARY number .. instead of looking at
the FREQ as a 4-byte block, etc - like many of the other
TYPICAL RIGS do ... So, the VE3NEA program "Client" sent
out the proper info -- then I went to DXBASE and using MANY
variations of the Radios.ini entry for the OMNI-VII (such as
using the terms
hex
bcd
asc
bcdr)
that are currently available for use in out Radios.ini
file -- nothing treated the data from DXBASE as a TOTAL
NUMBER - converted in the manner that the OMNI-VII is
needing to see it received as.
So, for the sake of the TenTec OMNI-VII users, since
you can get the FREQ and MODE "from" the OMNI-VII into
your logbook all ok -- you will have to stay with that
and, just know that you CAN NOT click-on a spot (QSY)
and expect your OMNI-VII to respond correctly. It just
can't happen ..
The one extra "routine" that would be needed is where
the Radios.ini file can convert/handle the "clicked-on
spots freq" into an output that would truely turn the
FREQ into a FULL BINARY STRING.
This Free Serial Port Monitor program helped me out
very nicely when I wanted to "Fine-tune" the Radios.ini
entry for my own TS-850S a/t Rig.
Passing the above along as FYI.
