[Dxbase] Transition from DXBase 2007 to DXLab Suite

I have three suggestions:

1. As you yourself suggested in a private email, continue to log new QSOs in
DXBase while evaluating alternative applications. Export all your DXBase
QSOs to date, and import them into a candidate application with the mindset
that you working on a "test log" that will be discarded after you make a
final decision. Check out all the functions and reports you consider
important; if you make a mistake, no big deal. Be mindful of performance on
your current PC; while a fast new PC may speed things up, it may not -- and
you won't know until you purchase and install that new PC. Since some
versions of DXBase apparently do not export DXCC entity information with
each QSO, determine whether this will be a factor in your transition and if
so what support is provided for restoring this information. Try updating a
few QSOs or groups of QSOs, but until you've made a decision, don't waste
time updating them all. If you do decide to change to a new logging
application, then export all of your DXBase QSOs at that point, import them
into your new application, and proceed from there.

2. If the application has a support group or reflector, join it and monitor
it for at least a week. Are questions answered promptly and politely? Will
you be comfortable posting "newbie" questions there? Post a question and see
what kind of response you get.

3. If you're considering DXLab, start by taking a look at

Dave (AA6YQ),
Thanks for your offer of help in transitioning to DXLab from DXBase. I
suspect many of the DXBase users will be looking for help in transitioning
to another logging program as many of us move to the new 64 bit operating
systems with new - more powerful - computers. Any help, with tips and ideas
to "smooth the change," will be much appreciated by many of us.
