I presently have two new computers in the shack.
Neither has a native com port, nor do they have printer ports.
But...I am able to access ALL the functions of DXBase, Rotor Control, Rig control, cw.
I am able to access all the functions of Writelog, Rig control, Rotors, cw, fsk, psk.
And for non contest digital, I use Winwarbler to access psk and fsk.
By one little box called the microhamKEYER.
All USB.
Unfortunately computers have progresses to USB (and even some to Firewire) while rigs are
still using 1990's technology.
The nice things:
It's small
Can be powered directly from the rig
Has non volatile memory
Frequent firmware and software updates
Unbelievable, almost instant, support
All software configurable, no jumpers
The not so nice things:
It's a totally different concept
and requires original setup a tad more complex
Not the cheapest (but probably cheaper in long wrong)
Requires a rig specific cable.
I investigated the other USB alternatives.
And purchased microhamKEYER SN 001.
