Boy, did I get flamed by all those youngsters. For the record, I have never
been a CB'er. I got into ham radio through the Cub Scouts (I wanted
another Merit Badge). For those of you too young to remember, 11M was a
separate ham band from 10M. The FCC took it away from us in 1957. Wayne
Green (W2NSD), then editor of CQ Magazine, held a "Save 11M Contest" where
there was over 1200 ham entering the contest - there was no such thing and
CB back then. That was the peak of the cycle and the band was open all over
the world. BTW, I was licensed in 1956 when you had to copy code with the
examiner standing by your side, watching what you wrote, and frowning when
you screwed up - one minute SOLID, or you flunk, Non of this multiple
choice (if in doubt, choose "D") junk. For those of you who are still
wondering, I was licensed when I was four years of age and, after 50, I
count ever two years as one. Therefore, I'm probably "younger" than most
of you. For those of you who can't relate, wait a while - you will.
