Bill,

The installation and upgrade process used in DXbase is such that you never
"move" database .mdb files. You must use the DXB Import utility to import
your data from one version to another.

Jack

Subject: [Dxbase] Reformatting and Backing up

For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to get my computers in the
house networked. After a lot of anguish it is up and running. One outcome
was I had to reformat and reinstall Windows 98SE on my "radio" computer. I
use it as my primary computer for DXBase and my contesting programs. It was
probably a good thing; it was beginning to act a little flaky.

I always keep a complete backup of DXBase on my Win XP machine. The old
machine is way too slow for doing QSLs, LOTW, and reports. I do have a few
of the screen settings different since I only have an old 15 inch monitor on
the old computer.

I am still running DXBase 2005 and I thought I would reinstall it to be sure
I don't run into any problems doing an install of the 2006 software. My
question is, which files I need to transfer into the new install. I know
that I assume that the refdata.mdb and the w5vx.mdb need to be moved. I have
modified my hosts file to include the locations of the packet clusters I use
and I would like to have that info without having to go and modify again. I,
also, want to make sure that the computer remembers that K7C is really DX
and not US.

Incidentally - although I know that many of you already know this - Joe,
WA6AXE, is a first class gentleman. He went way beyond what anyone would
expect to help me with a project. A public thanks, Joe!!

73,
Bill, W5VX
