Ken,

What you describe is symptomatic of a couple possibilities.  One, you have a 
virus that clobbered your host file.  Many viruses attack the host file and 
attempt to destroy its contents thus preventing you from accessing certain 
internet sites.  There are some of these floating around right now.

Or, two, you have installed something that has erased your host file and 
replaced it with its own.
You can check out the help file in the section called Internet Interface for 
more info about the host file.
