Make sure that the address of your usb comport is the same as that used on
DXbase. Normally com1 uses 3F8. Unfortunately those usb adapter uses
another adress. Check the DXbase help file, and see how to change the
adress used in DXbase. In DXbase 2004 there is a special program to set
these adresses, DXB driver setup, I cannot remember if that existed in 2003.

Subject: RE: [DXBase] Serial to USB cable (from VR2GA)

Hi friends:

Thanks for the many suggestions.

Just to be sure, I tried again the tranceiver with a desktop PC with RS-232C
Com 1 port and it worked fine. Back on the notebook PC and USB converter, I
am still not able to get the tranceiver to respond.

A question: What about Com Port selection as the program options specify
None to Com 1 to Com 16? I tried all Com port selections and only two were
able to open: Com 1 and Com 3. However, when trying the QSY function as a
test, the message indicating the tranceiver was unable to respond came up.

My settings are (which worked on the PC with RS-232C) 4800, 8 bits, Polarity
None, Stop bits: 1, Default DTR is set for default High. And, yes, I did
remember to select the "Connect HF Radio etc." Again, Com Ports 1 and 3 were
tried and both opened.

Any last suggestions before I give up and then try to buy a new adapter such
as the one recommended by Art?

Many tnx, 73s de Stan VR2GA

Subject: [DXBase] Serial to USB cable (from VR2GA)

Dear fellow users:

I have not yet upgraded to DXB2004 so am still with the 2003 version.

Recently I obtained a new notebook computer which is the PC on which I now
have to use DXB. Before, I used the Com1 port on my desktop and had no
problem to connect to my radio (Kenwood TS-850). My new PC has no serial
ports but instead has 2 USB ports. So, I tried to use a serial to USB cable
to from my tranceiver to the PC USB port. I had to go through a few comport
numbers in the USer Options until the program seemed to recognize my PC.
However, when doing a test logging, I found the Radio failed to respond
message. Is this because USB does not work in this case? Can I get some
suggestions. I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I have been
unable to read the reflector messages lately.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions,

Stan Lipin
