Many thanks to those who replied to my dilemma, especially good ol' =
Firebrick who mailed lots of helpful tips and screen shots directly. So =
far it's been a case of one step forward, one step back. Here's the =
current situation and how I got there.
1.. Per Bill's tip sheet I checked for the two required driver files, =
driverx.sys and driverx.vxd, in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers =
directory and found them both missing. Located the driver files in the =
DXbase 2003 directory and copied them to the Drivers directory, which =
did nothing at all - still no CW.
2.. Went to Device Manager and checked the Com port addresses, which =
seemed to be correct.
3.. Checked the registry and found no DXB98 com port addresses defined =
in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\DriverX. =
Tried to figure out how that could be and finally decided it must be =
pilot error. Originally had DXbase2002 installed and when I upgraded to =
2003 I first installed the new version, verified that the things I was =
using worked and then uninstalled 2002. The only thing I can figure is =
that when uninstalling 2002 the required registry entries were removed =
and 2003 was left high and dry.
4.. Made backups of my .mdb data bases and associated files then =
uninstalled and reinstalled DXbase 2003. Verified that the registry =
entries are now there and in agreement with my com port addresses in =
Device Manager.
5.. Tried to run CW from DXbase2003, again without success. Tried =
running CwType in the background and DXbase will now key the rig and =
send CW! Tried running MMTTY in the background and DXbase will send CW =
with that running as well. So far so good - this is the one step =
forward.
6.. The one step backward? I've lost rig control on the Com2 port!!! =
It was there before and it still works with Writelog, but I cannot get =
DXbase to recognize the IC756PRO. ARRRGH!!!
I have a PCMCIA Socket Dual I/O serial port card in the laptop that =
configured as Com2 and Com5 when installed. The address for Com2 shows =
a range from 02F8 - 02FF. DXbase has the standard Com2 address of 02F8 =
in the registry, so I think this is ok. I've tried changing the Port =
Setting Flow Control choices from 'Xon/Xoff' to 'Hardware' and to 'None' =
with no difference. I made no setting changes in the radio or in the =
wiring connections, and like I said Wrirtelog still sees the rig. I've =
tried several reboots and cycling the radio on and off, but nothing =
works. Anyone ever run into to this or have an idea how to drain this =
swamp?
