[Dx4win] Check For Updates Won't Run

If you're connected to the Internet, there is always some risk. Since Windows XP isn't being patched anymore, there are vulnerabilities that can be exploited regardless of what anti-virus/anti-malware/firewall you run. Your machine could, for instance, become part of a botnet (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet).

Turning off your computer when not using it doesn’t make much of a difference, you can get infected in a fraction of a second.

I will say that you are doing the right thing by running anti-virus, etc., but you are going to be more vulnerable to infections.

At some point pretty much all Internet traffic will be encrypted. Encryption along doesn't prevent viruses, but it does reduce the risk.

No, those of us which choose to run obsolete systems, pay the money to run strong anti-virus and anti-malware, dedicate our PC's to our ham radio setup and turn them off when not in use.

XP users should try the update again ; Scott, KA9FOX, changed the website such that the files directory no longer requires an https connection. —Paul, KK4HD
